The Original In-N-Out Burger Museum

Get the hours right or you will drive out there for nothing

The museum is open Thursday through Sunday, 11 AM to 2 PM. Three hours, four days a week. It is free.

It is at 13766 Francisquito Avenue in Baldwin Park.

What you are looking at

This is a reconstruction, not a preserved building, and knowing that makes the visit better rather than worse.

The first In-N-Out opened on 22 October 1948 at what is now the corner of the I-10 and Francisquito. It was a hamburger stand roughly the size of a garden shed, with a two-way speaker box, which was the new idea at the time. The freeway took the original. A 1954 replacement ran until 2004 and came down in 2011.

What stands today was built in 2014, near the original site, to the original dimensions. Inside there are early uniforms, old menus and photographs from the first years.

Give it twenty minutes

It is small and it is meant to be. Most people are in and out in under half an hour, which is the correct amount of time for it.

Across the freeway at 13850 Francisquito there is a working In-N-Out and the company store, which is where the merchandise is. The company's training facility is on the same block.

Where this sits in a day

Baldwin Park is about ten minutes from our West Covina studio. If you are building an afternoon out of it, this is the twenty-minute stop rather than the main event, and it pairs with something slower afterwards.
