Swedish Massage in West Covina

What Swedish massage is

Swedish massage is the one most people picture. Long, gliding strokes, light to medium pressure, warm oil, and a pace that slows you down rather than works you over. It is the session to book when you want to leave calmer than you came in.

  • Light to medium pressure throughout

  • A slower pace than deep tissue

  • Covers the whole body, not one problem area

  • Many people leave feeling calmer and lighter

How the session runs

You start face down under the sheet. Your therapist works the back, then the legs and arms, and asks you to turn over partway through. Most guests keep their underwear on. You stay covered the whole time, and only the area being worked on is uncovered.

The pressure stays light to medium from start to finish. If you want more or less, say so at any point. Your therapist would rather know.

What it helps with

Swedish massage moves blood and fluid through the tissue and gives the nervous system a long stretch of quiet. Guests come in for a tight back and shoulders after a week at a desk, for trouble sleeping, or simply because they are wound up and want an hour that is theirs.

It is not a medical treatment and we will not pretend otherwise. If something hurts in a way that worries you, see a doctor. If you are sore, stiff or tired, this is a good hour.

Swedish or deep tissue

Swedish is the slower one. It covers the whole body and stays in the surface layers, so it suits a long week, a restless mind, or a first visit.

Deep tissue goes after specific tightness with firmer pressure. Ours is the Zen Flow™ method, built here in the studio, broad and connected rather than sharp. If your shoulders are locked or you train hard, that is the one.

If you are not sure, ask at the front desk. We would rather put you in the right session than the one you happened to click.

What you can add

Aromatherapy, hot stones and cupping all sit alongside a Swedish session. See the enhancements.

The therapists

Serenity Zen was founded by Dr. Nick, DAOM L.Ac., a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and a California Licensed Acupuncturist, and that training runs through the work. Every therapist in West Covina is CAMTC certified, which takes at least 500 hours at an approved school and fingerprints filed with the state.
