Yes, when you would both enjoy a massage anyway and want to share the occasion. It is not worth it when one of you is only going along to be nice.
The short answer
Worth it: an anniversary, a birthday, a visit from someone you rarely see, or two busy people who both want a massage.
Not worth it: one of you does not enjoy massage, or you want to talk the whole time.
Neither of you gets less. Each of you picks your own service, length and pressure.
Book ahead. You need two therapists free at the same time.
What a couples massage is
At Serenity Zen, a couples massage means two guests starting at the same time, each with their own therapist and their own service. You do not massage each other, and neither of you has to match the other.
One of you can have light Swedish while the other gets deep tissue. One of you can book a foot massage while the other books a body massage or a Combination.
Where you will be
That depends on what each of you books. A foot massage or a Combination happens in the Reflex Lounge, each of you at your own curtained station. A body massage happens in a private room. Tell the desk you are booking together and we will set it up.
For a body massage, you undress to your comfort level in private and stay covered by a sheet. Most guests keep their underwear on. More on that in what to wear to a massage.
When it is worth it
An anniversary, Valentine's Day or a date, when you want a quiet outing together instead of another dinner.
A birthday, or a visit from a parent, sibling or old friend.
A nervous first-timer. Coming with someone you know can make a first visit feel easier.
Two busy people who both want a massage. Two appointments become one outing.
When it is not worth it
One of you does not enjoy massage and is only there to keep the other company.
You want to talk. A massage is quiet, so save the catching up for dinner afterward.
One of you would rather go alone, on your own schedule.
You hope it will fix a rough patch. Slowing down together can help, but it will not do the talking for you.
In those cases, two solo visits may suit you better.
From Dr. Nick
The best reason to book together is simple: you both need it, and it is nicer to go with someone. Choose your own pressure. The person next to you should never decide how deep your massage goes.
How to get the most from it
Book ahead. A couples booking needs two therapists free at the same time, and booking ahead holds your time, especially on weekends and evenings.
Book online as a group booking, or call the studio.
Choose the same length if you want to finish together.
Arrive 15 minutes early, both of you, so you start on time.
Each of you tells your own therapist where you want the work and how much pressure you like.
Add an enhancement if you like. Hot stones, a steam eye mask and others can be added to either session.
Common questions
Does it have to be a romantic couple?
No. Any two guests can book together: friends, siblings, a parent and an adult child.
Can we each choose something different?
Yes. Each of you picks your own service, length and pressure, so one of you can go light while the other goes deep.
Do we have to finish at the same time?
Only if you want to. Book the same length and you start and finish together.
How much does a couples massage cost?
Each session is priced on its own. Every length and its price is shown when you book, next to the times that are open.
Can I give one as a gift?
Yes. A gift card is sent by email within seconds, or on a date you choose. It never expires and works at both studios, so the two of them can book when it suits them.
